If you can’t carry it, you’re bringing too much.

Switching to a backpack changed traveling for me. I’m not sure I agree with people who tell me they are too small to carry a backpack. I’m 5’7 and my bag is probably 30-35 pounds. If you are smaller, aren’t your things also smaller? Bags come in all sizes, packing right takes practice.

Accept the fact that on your travels you will not be the best dressed person walking down the street. Be willing to do laundry. Don’t waste space on accessories like jewelry. Only bring necessary info and not entire guidebooks. Leave extra room on departure so you can bring things back.

Most importantly: if you opt to leave something at home and end up really needing it, chances are you can buy a new one.
